African Children's Choir - St. John's Lutheran Church Bloomington

Dec 7, 2013 from 7:15 AM to 7:15 AM

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at 1617 E. Emerson St., Bloomington, IL., on the corner of Emerson and Towanda, will host the African Children’s Choir at 3 PM. Saturday, December 7 in the sanctuary. The choir consists of children ages 7 to 10 years old from Uganda.

The Choir’s primary goal is to raise awareness of the need of destitute and orphaned children in Africa and to raise funds for continued development and support of the African Children’s Choir program. Many of the children have lost one or both parents through war, famine, or disease.

The children are the ambassadors for the millions of suffering children in Africa, and funds raised on tour not only go toward the education of each touring child, but also to the continuing efforts of its fundraising organization, Music for Life.

The African Children’s Choir and Music for Life have educated more than 50,000 children in its 29-year history, and have helped another 100,000 children through relief and education projects in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, South Sudan, South Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana.

The Choir’s international educational endeavor provides unique training for the children. Once Choir members have completed a concert tour, they return to their homelands with the tools necessary to become leaders.

Since the founding of the first choir in 1984, children have appeared in thousands of venues around the world, including concerts at the Pentagon and the United Nations. They have been featured on popular television and radio broadcasts such as “GMTV” and “Blue Peter.” The choir performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of the BBC Proms series. More recently they performed at the Commonwealth Observance Day in the presence of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh at Westminster Abbey.

A free-will offering will be taken to benefit the choir.
