Peoria Churches Plan Candlelight Caroling Events .
Dec 22, 2012 at 6:00 PM
Over twenty Peoria churches and organizations have united to present “Sounds of Christmas” a series of candlelight caroling events December 17 – December 22. The services will take place 6:00 PM nightly at five different south side, and one north side location.
After canvassing the neighborhood an hour before each service, a fifty voice choir, draped in festive choir robes, will sing Christmas hymns over loud speakers.
The family free program is a collaborative outreach effort of the interfaith churches and community organizations coordinated by John L. King a local minister working in the Peoria area. John King is the executive director of Joliet Crusaders for Christ, a ministry designed to empower churches for community outreach and evangelism.
"All members of the community are invited to attend, whether or not they are a member of the churches." said Betty Webster, spokeswoman for the program.
The first fifty attendees will have use of a battery powered candle. Others are encouraged to bring candles or small flashlights and join in the festivities. Lyric books will be available for those who have forgotten the words to the Christmas classics. Also, hot cocoa will be served.
A combined rehearsal will be held at the South Side Mission, 1127 S. Laramie December 10 at 4:00 PM for anyone wishing to participate in singing with the choir.
John King said “due to the overwhelming response of the clergy and organizations, this is sure to become an annual town event.
